Abuls Nature Trail

The Abuls Nature Trail runs along the shores of Lake Teperis, the winding Abuls River, and suburban forest paths. Along the way, you can see steep riverbanks, rocky rapids, “fairytale” pines, giant trees, and the handiwork of busy beavers.

  • Route length: 4 km
  • Start: Parking lot by the Teperis promenade (2a Dakteru Street)
  • The route is suitable for families with children, but it is not accessible with strollers!
  • For walks with strollers during the warm season, we invite you to use the Old Park and the Smiltene XC ski track!
  • Sights along the route: Teperis promenade, Abuls River, Fairytale Pines, Trident Pine, Rūķīškalns, Smiltene Giant Tree Park.
  • The route navigation (GPX) file is available here.
This is not an official nature trail, but a walking route offered by the Smiltene TIC. It is not marked in nature and is not regularly maintained. When going for a walk, please keep in mind that conditions in nature are changeable – from time to time the path may be blocked by a fallen tree, logging work may be underway, or it may become overgrown during the summer season, etc.
