City Route “Hills of Smiltene”

Set off on a hike or bike ride and climb the hills of Smiltene – enjoy the rolling streets, admire panoramic city views, and visit the town’s highest point! Whether it’s Midsummer, the first day of school, Christmas, a birthday, a workday, or any other occasion – choose the right day for you, challenge your friends, and enjoy 9 kilometres of fresh air and sunshine.

  • Smiltene’s city centre lies in a hollow at 106 metres above sea level, surrounded by several hills.
  • The highest point within the city is the Ancient Cērtēne Burial Grounds at 148 m AMSL. Other notable high points include:
    • Hill along Atmodas Street (146 m AMSL);
    • Rim of the Meteorite Crater (145 m AMSL);
    • Klievu Street Hill (144 m AMSL);
    • Central Drandu Street (143 m AMSL).
    • Following these are Lazdukalns, the hills of Priežu Street, Jaunā Street, Augstā Street, and Kalnamuiža.

This is not an official walking trail, but a route proposed by the Smiltene Tourism Information Centre. The route is not regularly maintained. When setting out for a walk, please note that conditions in nature may change – fallen trees may occasionally block the path, logging work may be underway, vegetation can become overgrown during the summer season, etc.
