Trapene Local History Centre

The Trapene Rural Territory Local History Centre was opened in 1960 on the initiative of teacher H. Auseklis. The exhibition of the local history centre presents the cultural heritage of Trapene Rural Territory.

 

Documents and photographic materials reflect:

  • Events of the Russian Revolution of the 20th century that affected Trapene;
  • The Latvian War of Independence in 1919;
  • Bearers of the Order of Lāčplēsis from Trapene;
  • Life in Trapene during the period of independent Latvia;
  • The Second World War and the post-war years;
  • The tragic deportations during the Soviet occupation.

 

Exhibitions at the local history centre:

  • Exhibition “The Manor of Baron Woldemar von Wulf” – the history of Trapene and Bormaņi Manor Park.
  • An exhibition about the writer and poet Linards Laicens, as well as his monument located by the cultural centre.
  • An exhibition about the brothers Ādolfs and Jānis Greste. Ādolfs Greste worked as a teacher at the Bormaņi (now Trapene) Rural Territory school “Kristiņi” at the turn of the 19th-20th century. A memorial plaque has been installed on this building. The exhibition also reflects the life of Jānis Greste – teacher, museum professional, and collector. Author of 212 anecdotes.
  • Materials about the local graphic artist Edvīns Andersons.
  • Exhibition “Ancient Latvian Tools and Their Use”.
  • At the end of the visit, guests can enjoy linden blossom tea made from the blossoms of century-old linden trees planted in the park by Linards Laicens.
  • 2021. In 2021, an exhibition hall was established at Bormaņi Manor, now Trapene Cultural Centre.

 

Trapene and Ojārs Vācietis

  • 1984. On 7 December 1984, a memorial stone dedicated to Ojārs Vācietis was unveiled near Trapene Primary School. Visitors are invited to warm the stone with their hands. As poet Imants Ziedonis said: “There will be as much warmth in the stone as we put into it.”
  • 2018. In 2018, the exhibition dedicated to the local poet Ojārs Vācietis was redesigned. It tells the story of the poet’s parents, his childhood and school years. Visitors can sit comfortably and listen to recordings of his poetry, read by the author himself.
  • 2021. gada 12. jūlijā tika atklāta interaktīvā glezna “Satikšanās ar dzejnieku”, kurā Ojārs Vācietis lasa savu dzeju.
