On Saturday, 19 September 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Autumn Market will take place in the centre of Smiltene, bringing together 140 vendors this year. In Baznīcas Square up to Kalna Street and along a section of Marijas Street, visitors will find a wide selection of food products, handicrafts and plants, as well as live music, activities and an autumn-themed photo area.

There has been strong interest in taking part in this year’s Autumn Market. Following an evaluation of the applications, 140 vendors have been confirmed, including 68 food and beverage producers, 64 craftspeople and seven plant sellers. This means that on Saturday, visitors to the centre of Smiltene will be able to stock up for autumn and purchase a variety of treats, as well as find handcrafted goods, clothing, household items and plants.

From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in cooperation with the Smiltene Municipality Culture Centre, the bands “Mākoņstūmēji” and “Ceļojums” will provide the musical entertainment. Their performances will also offer a small preview of the Grand Autumn Festival taking place on 10 October, when both bands can be heard with their full line-ups.

The Smiltene Secondary School vocal and instrumental group, led by Jānis Celmiņš, will also take to the stage, giving market visitors an opportunity to hear and support young musicians from Smiltene. From 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., activities for visitors will take place near the stage, while an autumn-themed photo area will be available throughout the day.

Special flavours will be brought to the market by Ukrainians living in Smiltene Municipality, who will prepare soup on site, as well as plov and stuffed cabbage rolls for visitors to enjoy.

Due to the Autumn Market, traffic restrictions will be in place in the centre of Smiltene from 10:00 p.m. on 18 September until 5:00 p.m. on 19 September. The market area in Baznīcas Square and a section of Marijas Street will be closed to vehicle traffic, and there will also be changes to traffic arrangements on the surrounding streets. Visitors are encouraged to park outside the closed area in the parking spaces available around the town and to follow the temporary road signs. Please also note that construction works are ongoing in the centre of Smiltene.
