Smiltene Municipality will implement the project “Development of a Multimodal Public Transport Network in Smiltene”, No. 2.3.1.2/2/26/A/032. The aim of the project is to promote the development of a multimodal public transport network in Smiltene by establishing a public transport interchange point while also strengthening micromobility solutions within the overall mobility system.

As part of the project, the Smiltene bus station and the adjacent area will be designed and reconstructed. The street intersection is also planned to be redesigned and rebuilt to improve traffic safety and ensure more convenient connections between different modes of transport.

Within the Smiltene bus station area, the project provides for the demolition of two existing buildings, the construction of platform shelters, the creation of bicycle parking facilities, the installation of a public drinking water tap, and the introduction of a smart bus station management system. In parallel, landscaping and site improvement works will also be carried out as part of the project.

The project is being implemented under Specific Objective 2.3.1 “Promoting sustainable multimodal urban mobility” of the European Union Cohesion Policy Programme 2021–2027, within Measure 2.3.1.2 “Multimodal Public Transport Network”.

The total cost of the project is EUR 500,000, of which EUR 424,950 is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and EUR 75,050 by Smiltene Municipality. The project is planned to be implemented by 31 December 2028.
