2026. During the spring and summer season, visitors can once again enjoy the beautiful landscape of Smiltene’s “Stonehenge” – the ruins of a former Smiltene Manor barn, located on the outskirts of Smiltene along the Smiltene–Valka road. Over the years, these ruins have become one of the most popular and most frequently photographed tourist attractions in the Smiltene Municipality.

The silhouette of the ruins resembles the world-famous Stonehenge archaeological monument in the United Kingdom, which is why the site has become popularly known as “Smiltene Stonehenge.” This unofficial tourist attraction is popular not only among local residents but also among visitors from across Latvia and abroad.
It has become a magical location for photography, especially on summer evenings, when the scenery is enhanced by well-kept fields and the vibrant colours of the sunset.

Over the years, the road leading to Smiltene’s “Stonehenge” has become a special hallmark of the site, created with great care by its owners – the Bērziņš family. In previous years, hundreds of sunflowers and cornflowers have bloomed along the edges of the field, delighting visitors.

The Smiltene Municipality Tourism Information Centre encourages every visitor to appreciate the owners’ kindness and hospitality, to treat the surrounding environment with care, avoid trampling crops, refrain from leaving litter, and respect the unique atmosphere of this place. The owners invest considerable time and effort in maintaining and improving the area.

Every visitor’s responsible behaviour will help preserve this place, ensuring that it remains accessible to the public and attractive for future generations.
