Looking to the future: Gaujiena’s historic pump house gets a new roof

At the beginning of the summer 2026, the replacement of the roof of the historic pump house in the territory of the Gaujiena Manor ensemble was successfully completed. The works were carried out using funding from the Smiltene Municipality budget.
Not only was this step taken to preserve cultural and historical heritage, but also with the aim of creating a new, well-maintained stopover point for tourists.

The Gaujiena Manor ensemble is the parish’s main tourism attraction and a keeper of historical heritage – its calling card and an architectural monument of national significance. The ensemble consists of several buildings, the oldest of which – the manor granary – was built in 1788.
The pump house is an old and picturesque building within the ensemble, which had been significantly affected by the passage of time. To preserve this unique building for future generations and enhance its visual appeal, its roof has recently been replaced.

Jānis Šepters, Head of the Gaujiena and Trapene Parish Association Administration, appreciates the work that has been done and is optimistic about the future of the site: “With just a little more care, it will look truly beautiful!”

The Parish Administration has promised that work on the pump house and the improvement of its surroundings will continue, with the aim of restoring the shine to one of Gaujiena’s cultural gems – a place of pride not only for local residents, but also for visitors to the municipality.

Gaujiena Parish makes it happen!
