Smiltene, the area around Lake Niedrājs, Gaujiena, Rauna and Grundzāle are the places in our municipality where director Reinis Kalviņš’s new feature film “Klajumā aiz meža” was filmed. Residents of Smiltene Municipality also took part in the making of the film, appearing in crowd scenes. The film will premiere on 22 October, and on the same day it will also be screened at the Smiltene cinema.
Filming took place in Smiltene and near Lake Niedrājs in Launkalne Parish, as well as in Gaujiena and the surrounding area, while several scenes were filmed in Rauna and Grundzāle. A significant part of the film was also shot at the Smiltene police station, while the home of the film’s main character was located in Gaujiena. Alongside professional actors, residents of Smiltene Municipality also took part in the filming, appearing in crowd scenes.
“Klajumā aiz meža” is a crime drama in which present-day events intertwine with an unresolved mystery from 30 years ago. Human remains are discovered in a bog near a small town in Latvia, and reports begin to spread that they may belong to a teenager who disappeared 30 years earlier. The discovery brings past events back into focus and prompts a fresh examination of the memories and roles of those involved.
The leading roles in the film are played by Kaspars Zvīgulis, Edgars Ozoliņš, Svetlana Stoļarova, Armands Berģis, Anda Reigase, Lauris Dzelzītis, Ivars Kirmuška and Māris Pūris. The film is directed by Reinis Kalviņš and produced by the film studio “Mistrus Media” in cooperation with Germany’s “Juna Film” and Estonia’s “Meteoriit”.
On the day of the premiere, the film will also be screened in Smiltene.
On 22 October at 19:00, “Klajumā aiz meža” will be screened at the cinema hall of the Smiltene Municipality Culture Centre. Additional screenings are scheduled for 23 October at 19:00 and 24 October at 15:00.
The screening on 24 October will be a special one – after the film, audiences will have the opportunity to meet the creative team, learn more about how the film was made and get a glimpse behind the scenes of the production.
These screenings will be especially interesting for audiences from Smiltene Municipality, as we will be able to recognise familiar places from our municipality on the big screen and see local residents who took part in the making of the film.
