On 26 September 2026, Smiltene will host one of the main events of this year’s European Week of Sport – the #BeActive Hike, taking participants along Smiltene’s nature trails, through parks, past lakes and across its hilly forests.
We cannot make it happen without you – we invite volunteers who would like to help create the atmosphere of the hike, look after the well-being of participants and, together with the organisers, make this day truly special!

Volunteers will have the opportunity to get involved in a variety of tasks – helping along the hiking routes and with organisational duties, including directing participants to parking areas, as well as carrying out other practical tasks needed to ensure the event runs smoothly.
How can you help?

Option 1 – become part of the organising team!

Help organise the hike by assisting along the routes, managing participant flow, directing visitors to parking areas, and supporting other practical tasks! Your help will be essential in ensuring that hundreds of participants can enjoy the hike smoothly and without unnecessary concerns.

In accordance with the Voluntary Work Law, a person may engage in voluntary work from the age of 13. Persons aged 13 to 16 must obtain the written consent of their legal representative before carrying out voluntary work.

Option 2 – become a character in the “Mysterious Dens”!

The twilight hike “Mysterious Dens” will be a special evening adventure for the whole family. After sunset, participants will encounter the dens of Latvia’s wild animals along the route, as well as fairy-tale and mysterious characters, and domestic animals in the Kalnamuiža area.

To bring this world to life, we invite you to sign up individually or together with your family, friends or colleagues and step into character! You don’t need to be an actor or know any magic tricks – just let your imagination run wild!

We’ll provide the costumes.
