Exhibition Hall of the Rauna Cultural and Historical Heritage Centre
The collection of the Rauna Cultural and Historical Heritage Centre has been built up gradually, gathering historical materials related to Rauna Rural Territory, personal artefacts, recorded memories, and documents. Through regularly changing the exhibitions, the centre offers residents and visitors the opportunity to explore Rauna’s history and discover the most recent and interesting additions to the collection.
About the Exhibition Hall
- The exhibition hall is located in a beautiful building at 2 Rīgas Street, in the very centre of Rauna, locally known as Plūme’s House or Grāmatnīca (Bookshop).
- Here, visitors can view various temporary exhibitions, which change once or twice a year.

About Plūme’s House (Bookshop)
- The building 20. was constructed during the late 1920s by the entrepreneur from Rauna, Jānis Plūme, as a shop and residential building.
- In the 30. 1930s, the building housed a manufactured goods store, a hairdresser’s, a bakery, a butcher’s, and a beverage store. The Plūme family lived on the second floor.
- In 1947, a branch of Cēsis Bookshop was opened at Plūme’s House, and operated here until 2001, which gave the new name – “Bookshop”.
- The building at 2 Rīgas Street, together with other buildings in the centre of Rauna can also be seen in the famous film of Riga Film Studio “Dāvana vientuļai sievietei” (A Gift to a Lonely Woman), which was shot in 1973. The exterior of the building with an inscription “Restorāns” (Restaurant), where Nora Bumbiere and Viktors Lapčenoks performed the famous song “Rudacīte” (Brown-eyed girl), is seen in the film.
- In the 90. 1930s, the building housed several shops, a confectionery, and a café-bar. 2011. In 2011, it became the property of Rauna Municipality, and major reconstruction works began in 2014, which were fully completed in autumn 2020.
