Gaujiena Nature Trail
On an educational walk along the River Gauja, you can discover the natural values of the North Gauja protected landscape area and the diverse inhabitants of its biotopes. The winding course of the River Gauja offers beautiful natural scenery and is home to more than 100 rare species of animals, birds, plants, fungi, and lichens.
- Total trail length: 6 km, but a shorter section can also be chosen instead.
- Several picnic tables and benches are placed along the trail.
- Several swimming spots are available by the River Gauja.
- At the foot of Church Hill, a small obstacle course has been created for the youngest trail visitors.
- In certain places, you can see the mischief of the beavers, elsewhere a bird’s nest, and in spring, the banks of the River Gauja are covered with colourful wood anemone blossoms.
Important!
- During spring floods, a large part of the trail may be flooded.
- Be careful near water and supervise children!
- Part of the nature trail can be walked with a stroller (the section through the meadows behind the Egļukalns open-air stage).
- The trail is also suitable for bicycles, but you may need to push your bike in a couple of places.
