Grūbe Dolomite Outcrop and Hydroelectric Power Station (HPP)
Grūbe Dolomite Outcrop
- A Devonian dolomite outcrop on the right bank of the River Vaidava, rising about 10 metres, is a nationally protected geological and geomorphological natural monument, located in the protected landscape area of Veclaicene.
- Grūbes dolomīta atsegumu joslas garums ir 110m.
- The dolomite step forms one of the largest waterfalls in Latvia (height 4.3 m, width 12 m), on which a mill once operated, and later the HPP was built.
- A valuable component of the natural monument is a small spring in the middle part of the cliff, with an artificial outlet.
Grūbes HES
- Grūbe Hydroelectric Power Station is located on the River Vaidava, where twelve power stations once operated.
- Water power was not only used for grinding flour and producing groats but also for sawing logs, edging boards, splitting roof shingles, the primary processing of sheep wool, and generating electricity.
- 1999. In 1999, Grūbe HPP was restored and equipped with a modern Austrian through-flow turbine with dual regulation. It operated automatically and ensured a constant water level in the river.
- The HPP structures have cultural and historical value.
- One of the old HPP turbines is also located in the meadow by the HPP.
- Recreation areas have been set up near the HPP.
