Kapusils Long Juniper
Visit one of Latvia’s most romantic and unusual venerable trees – the Kapusils Long Juniper. The juniper coexists harmoniously with a nearby pine – a few metres above the ground, the juniper’s branches wrap around the pine. It appears as though the two trees are lovingly entwined in an eternal embrace. The Kapusils Long Juniper is considered one of the tallest junipers in Latvia, exceeding 12 metres in length.
How to get there?
- Driving along the Veclaicene highway in Launkalne Rural Territory, turn onto the V253 road (known as “Kapusils Road”), leading to “Medņi”.
- After 4 kilometres, on the left side, you will see a barrier and a sign indicating that the forest road is closed to motorised vehicles.
- Park your vehicle at the side of the road and continue on foot, skis or sleds along the beautiful forest trail.
- After approx. 1.6 km, look for a juniper tree on the right-hand side, located 50 metres from the road.
- To make it easier, download the LVM GEO app on a smartphone and select the option to view data from the DAP nature data system “OZOLS” in the settings. The map will display the exact location of the tree, as well as the user’s location.
- Head to the point shown on the map and hug your loved ones, just like the juniper hugs the pine tree!
