Lake Lizdole

About the lake:

  • Lake Lizdole (also known as Lake Mūsiņi) is located in the Mežole Hills of Vidzeme Upland, at an elevation of 193.6 m above sea level, in Launkalne Rural Territory.
  • The average depth of Lake Lizdole is 4.4 metres; the maximum depth is 9.9 metres; the lake covers an area of 53.9 hectares.
  • The lake has two islands.
  • The River Rauza flows out of Lake Lizdole; however, one stream and two ditches flow into it.
  • Beaver activity has been observed. Fish species living in the lake include perch, crucian carp, pike, tench, bream, roach, and rudd. The aquatic vegetation zone includes common reed, water horsetail, club-rush, bur-reed, narrowleaf cattail, and broadleaf cattail.
  • Lake Lizdole is a European Union-protected habitat: “Eutrophic lake with submerged and floating vegetation”. It is a naturally formed habitat and one of Latvia’s most important freshwater environments for typical plant and animal species.

 

Along the roadside, at the entrance to the Recreation Complex “Silmači”, there is a public, well-maintained swimming and relaxation area.

  • There is a gently sloping swimming area.
  • A pontoon jetty has been built on the lake.
  • A fire pit area with benches with backrests and waste bins.
  • Changing cabin.
  • Fish measuring board for anglers to check the size of their catch.

 

Next to the lake, you will find the recreation complex “Silmači”, offering accommodation, active leisure on sports fields, and a variety of water-based activities. Visitors can enjoy well-equipped swimming areas with jetties, boats, catamarans, fishing, a water trampoline, banana boat rides towed behind a motorboat, and water pedal boats.
