Lake Spicieris
About the lake:
- Lake Spicieris is located in Launkalne Rural Territory, about 5 km from Smiltene.
- The lake is unusual due to its long, curved shape – about 1.5 km long and only 200 m wide.
- Lake surface area – 16 ha.
- The average depth is 4.9 metres; the maximum depth is 7.1 metres.
- A forest lake with a muddy bottom, through which the River Kamaldiņa flows.
- The western and eastern shores are quite steep and feature several strong springs. The springs emerge at the foot of the slopes and form streams that enrich the lake with water.
- A stream flows out of the lake into the River Vija.
- Fish species living in the lake include perch, crucian carp, pike, tench, roach, rudd, eel, and ruffe.
The lake shore features a well-maintained swimming area with a jetty, as well as a recreation area with a table, benches, and a fire pit. This is an ideal place for peaceful relaxation, while those seeking more active leisure can choose from a variety of outdoor activities available in Smiltene Municipality. Lake Spicieris is also popular among anglers.

The water of Lake Spicieris is believed to have beneficial properties – it is said to reduce inflammation and have a strong effect on a person’s astral field, slowing life processes overall and possibly reducing aggressive energy. Swimming in the lake too frequently within a single week is not recommended, as it may cause increased drowsiness.
