Open Farm “Zadiņi”
“Zadiņi” encompasses 90 hectares of organically certified meadows, forests, and ponds, along with domestic birds and animals, cows, bees, and family gardens. The farm also features a unique collection of unusual bicycles or freak bikes, consisting of more than 70 handcrafted bikes. “Zadiņi” works closely with the village and school of Launkalne, as well as with social and environmental activists across Latvia and internationally.
Here, local solutions to global challenges are actively explored. Learning from the ethics of permaculture and traditional skills, the community protects biodiversity, supports healthy human relationships, encourages shared work, practices regenerative land management, and develops alternatives to dominant economic models.
Community members have extensive experience in social research, pedagogy, lifelong learning, arts, crafts, medicinal plant use, and agriculture. Events of various scales, including courses, workshops, and youth camps, have been held regularly at “Zadiņi” since 2017.
