Silva Dendrological Park

The Silva Dendrological Park is located in Launkalne Rural Territory, near the village of Silva.

  • Silva Arboretum is a nationally protected nature area that covers 15 hectares.
  • The first plantings in the Silva Dendrological Park were made in 1972.
  • Initially, Canaan Firs, red oaks, and blue spruces were planted.
  • Approximately 200 species of trees and shrubs grow here, and for many of them, this is the northernmost place they grow.
  • The plantings are arranged in groups by botanical families.

The Silva Dendrological Park is an excellent place for a peaceful walk or a picnic in nature. It is especially beautiful in spring, when nature awakens and blooms, and in autumn, when the unusual plantings glow in a wide range of autumn colours. The Silva Arboretum is designed in a way that allows much of the park to be observed from its higher points.

At the entrance to the park, there is a parking area, as well as basic visitor information and a map. Silva Dendrological Park is included in the local cycling routes “Smiltene Cycling Routes” and “Cycle Around Smiltene’s Lakes”.
