The Colourful Post

The Colourful Post is a cultural and historical landmark that blends into the forest landscape while also serving as a point of orientation for travellers passing by.

  • Already earlier, during the period of Latvia’s first independence, a boundary marker stood here – a post displaying road signs pointing in different directions, as well as name boards of nearby homesteads. The post was both visually striking and rich in information, which earned it the name “Raibais Stabs” (The Colourful Post).
  • Surrounded by forests, the post has long served as a meeting point for hunters before a hunt and as a familiar landmark for mushroom and berry pickers, as well as for other travellers.
  • The current post has been recreated to closely resemble the original structure.
  • Special gratitude is expressed to Sarmīte Nēgele, the initiator of the idea, for restoring and enhancing this cultural and historical site.
