The Business and Tourism Department of Smiltene Municipality has renewed several outdated information boards at tourism and cultural heritage sites in Smiltene and Palsmane. The new boards provide information about the history and significance of the sites in Latvian and English.

The information boards help residents and visitors of Smiltene Municipality learn more about places they may often pass by in everyday life without knowing their stories, whether while taking a walk or exploring the area. Over time, some of the previously installed boards had become worn, so they have now been replaced, with their visual design and language use also updated.

In Palsmane, information boards have been renewed at the Love Square, Palsmane Evangelical Lutheran Church, and Palsmane Manor.

In Smiltene, new information boards have been installed at several sites that highlight the city’s history and tourism attractions: at the Smiltene Hydroelectric Power Plant, which tells the story of one of the first hydroelectric power stations in the Baltic region, at Kalnamuiža, and at several locations around Lake Teperis.

Unlike the previous boards, which also provided information in Russian, the updated boards present the information in Latvian and English.

This is part of ongoing efforts to improve and update tourism information throughout Smiltene Municipality. Last year, tourism information was renewed on 11 large-format information boards across the municipality. The content and visual design of other tourism information materials are also being gradually reviewed and updated.
